Nundle - New England Tablelands - Mount Misery Gold Mine Café and Museum

This building was built in 1880 by George Davidson. George was a carpenter who failed to make his fortune on the gold fields and decided making Coffins was a far better way to earn a living.

The stone cottage became the Undertakers Cottage. The late Reg Tinsey had memories of the hearse drown by black horses with tall black plumes collecting the coffins and a procession of black buggies following the hearse through Nundle to the Cemetery. The Undertakers cottage was restored in 1990.
